WE’RE A GREEN FLAG AWARD WINNING PARK

We are excited to announce that Randwick Park has been re-awarded the prestigious international Green Flag Award for 2019.

The Green Flag Award is the international mark of a quality park or green space, judged by green space-expert volunteers, across 27 criteria. These criteria include horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability, community involvement, accessibility and providing a warm welcome.

In total this year, 29 parks in New Zealand have made the grade to be awarded a Green Flag. We are incredibly proud of the hard work the team at Randwick Park have put in to make this a reality and look forward to celebrating this achievement with our local community.

“This is a proud moment for the whole Team at Stepping Stones and Manu Tukutuku. The Green Flag award honors the many hours of hard work, care and aroha that is invested into the Park over 2018/19.” Dave Tims, Director of Stepping Stones

The Green Flag Award scheme was launched in 1997 and is managed in England by Keep Britain Tidy, now flags fly over 2000 sites across the UK, Republic of Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland and the United Arab Emirates, as well as Australia and New Zealand.

Andrew Leslie, CEO of Recreation Aotearoa said: “To create liveable cities, and sustainable, thriving communities we need to continue to invest in our parks and green spaces and truly value the contributions they make. Aoteaora has such a wealth of quality parks and being able to recognise that with international programmes like Green Flag is integral to recreational growth.”

Recreation Aotearoa Parks and Outdoor Spaces Programme Manager and Green Flag judge, Karl Nesbitt said: “This year the Green Flag Award has been a positive challenge, with two new councils and seven new parks coming on board. As judges we’ve had the great opportunity to experience some of New Zealand’s quality places and spaces that are used by the community. A big thank you needs to go to the communities behind the management and delivery of these parks and to our judges who volunteer their time to share their knowledge with the park teams. We look forward to another year working with Green Flag Award recipients and sharing with the public the great spaces they provide.”
